Lab FacilitiesThe Department of Electronics & Avionics was established in the year 1991. The diploma in this branch is the only one of its kind in Kerala. The branch has an intake of 50 students. The electronics and avionics diploma program includes theory, practical, field work, seminar, project work etc. The course may be categorized generally under four major headings, which are Foundation Courses, Basic Technology, Applied Technology and Elective Courses.
The Foundation Courses are those which are taken from mostly by the students who have passed the 10th. This include English, Mathematics, Physics, chemistry, Engineering Graphics and Workshop. The basic technology courses are bridge between pure science and applied technology. This includes subjects like Electrical Engg, basic electronics, digital electronics, basics of computer system, office automation, test and measuring instruments and electronic drafting & workshop.
The applied technology courses are professional terminal courses through which the desired knowledge and skills are developed in students to perform his/her job function in the electronics and avionics field of engg. This includes subjects like Electronic Circuits, Linear Integrated Circuits, Microprocessor, Communication Engg., Advanced Microprocessors, Audio and Video System, Television Engg., Control Engg. & Equipment Maintenance and Computer Hardware.
The elective courses provide an opportunity for some more detailed knowledge in specific areas or to develop awareness in other inter-displinary areas. This includes subjects such as Antenna Engg., Radar Engg, Microware engg, Computer Communication, Microcontroller and its application, Aerospace Telemetry, Aviation Electronics and Quality Control and Reliability Engg. The students of Electronics & Avionics find employment in many areas of Electronics application like Marketing, Manufacturing and servicing of electronics equipments. They can also pursue higher studies through BTech Degree as there is seat reservation for diploma holders.
The department has a staff pattern which includes one Head of Section, 4 Lecturers, 2 Demonstrators, one Trade Instructor and Trades man.
SyllabusThe Electronics & Avionics branch has well equipped laboratories. There is lab facility for electronic circuits, basic electronics, digital electronics, microprocessor and communication lab. Every year a group of selected students of Electronics & Avionics branch are given a chance to undergo two weeks training program at the Airport Authority of India.
